Job Summary
This position is responsible for achieving profitable revenue growth while managing and executing the current and future growth within the manufacturing facility. A key part of the role is drive manufacturing efficiencies and at the same time integrating the future growth of the facility as we execute new programs over the next 2-3 years. The GM will be expected to demonstrate leadership at the shop floor level and motivate the new and evolving workforce. The GM will be required to establish a hands-on can-do attitude as that DNA as cascaded throughout the facility. A key part of the role will be to manage the facility to hit the plant contribution goals, that includes managing the labor and the labor budgets in a very labor-intensive process. A leader that is a motivator will be key to the success of the operation. A key part of the role will also include a detailed understanding of manufacturing 5S principles and the implementation of these principles across all areas of the facility with a laser focus on housekeeping, best industry practices & a heightened sense of Continuous Improvement initiatives. Reporting directly to the Manager, the GM will be empowered to direct and manage all company resources to ensure the business goals and objectives are meet. These goals and objectives will be measured and reviewed with the Manager on a weekly, monthly, annually, and on 5-year business plan forecast. The GM will also provide oversight to the many expansion plans that are currently in place and work with the Manger to ensure these plans are executed in a timely manner to ensure new programs are not impacted in any way.
Responsibilities:
- Direct and Work with the 3 group area managers
- Direct and Work with the PM/PE to ensure new programs are understood and integrated into the facility per the Program milestone requirements. With a focus on 5S.
- Direct and provide guidance to the existing Management team.
- Streamline the shop floor labor and develop a series of tools to look for manufacturing efficiency and identify and measure the savings.
- Measure the facility based on the monthly plant contribution results and make improvements to improve monthly plant contribution.
- Provide an environment that supports and integrates new programs while current programs are in production. The objective is to ensure a seamless launch as new programs are added.
- Work on plant layouts and optimize the one-piece flow.
- Work with the PM/PE and provide oversight to ensure a timely execution of new and advanced programs.
- Review new quotes and future business estimates from the PM/PE and the Business Development team to ensure it meets that plant business objectives.
- Review headcount and ensure cross training is taking place in support of the growth curve.
- Work within the customer specific data bases to provide timely updates to changes, RFQ’s, Change notices, packaging, delivery requests, supplier quality updates etc.
- Review and provide input on update project timelines in support of the customer requirements.
- Review and understand program open issues and support internal and external PDT’s reporting out status and collecting action items, while driving open issues to a successful timely closure.
- Review the plan for every part and provide direction toward the plant Area Group Managers and the PM/PE to fine tune both the input and outputs to better represent the process.
- Review all tool tracking around a centralized job file to streamline the tool reporting process, from both financial contribution goals, timely completion, and final invoicing / progressive payment.
- Continue to work with support areas and leverage the areas that work for the process and include these areas within the core SMI program readiness process vs the items that may slow down the process and make it less nimble. Feel empowered to select the items that add value vs the items that simply don’t work for a smaller satellite lower volume composite molding and finishing facility.
- Work with the PM/PE and the PM to Develop and facilitate a monthly program readiness report
- Works with the Manager and the Business Development team to gain awareness of future business and supports the quoting process / prospecting process up until award, this is based on an as needed basis.
- Work within the guidelines established and predetermined by the Manager.
- Support and assist with the 5-year Business plan development, while understanding the monthly Data card results as the facility is measured against the monthly Business Plan results. Sit in on the monthly data card results with the Core GA based management team and present the Facility wide KPI’s as established by the Manager.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum, Bachelor’s degree in a technical field: engineering or materials technology
- Experience with manufacturing, molding, and finishing products.
- Experience with Composite molding and finishing would be preferred
- Proven sales/PM/Engineer track record in the materials, composites, chemicals, or plastics industry
- Experience with major Automotive OEMs would be advantageous.
- Minimum 15-20 years relevant sales/PM/Eng. experience
- Strong understanding of automotive and aerospace industry
- Strong experience with running and coordinating a manufacturing facility and tracking such issues to closure
- Ability to negotiate and close on contracts, has an entrepreneurial approach to commercial related issues
- Ability to communicate technical and commercial concepts to engineering, supply chain and senior management personnel
- Ability to work independently as well as be a motivational team member
- Written and spoken fluency in English
- Ability to travel within assigned geographic and potential market region(s); must possess a valid driver’s license for the state of residency and have an acceptable driving record.

- Proficient in MS Office & MS Project
- Ability to work remotely and focus on the development of new customers / new account / new programs
- Self-starter that demonstrates initiative and follow up with new and existing customers
