Job Title: Director of Environmental Health and Safety

FLSA Status: Exempt

Department: North America Environmental Health and Safety

Reports to: VP of EHS and Enterprise Strategy

GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE: The Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) is responsible for managing organizational efforts to ensure a safe working environment and compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations. The EHS Director will work closely with Operations to drive continuous improvement efforts by developing and implementing sustainable EHS programs, policies, and procedures that protect the workforce and the environment. The Director will analyze trends, conduct risk assessments, guide incident investigations, and move the organization toward a culture of hazard control first approach to prevention and leadership accountability for engagement in safety programs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


  • Collaborate with management to integrate EHS into business operations

  • Develop and implement comprehensive EHS programs and policies

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement in EHS practices

  • Conduct risk assessments and hazard evaluations

  • Investigate incidents and conduct root cause analysis

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal EHS regulations

  • Lead and manage the EHS Team

  • Track and report EHS metrics and KPIs

  • Oversee waste management and pollution prevention programs

  • Consult with customers, regulatory agencies, and external stakeholders

  • Develop emergency response and preparedness plans

  • Manage the EHS budget and allocate resources efficiently

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or related field

Experience: Minimum of 8 years of progressive EHS experience, with 5+ years in a leadership role managing programs, people, and compliance and OSHA regulations across multiple locations or divisions. Experience working in heavy manufacturing, industrial or railroads.

In lieu of education 12+ years of equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of computers and software with good word processing skills using Microsoft applications

  • Presentation skills

  • A disciplined work ethic and advocate for Lorams managements mission and vision

  • Ability to travel

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Master's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or related field.

Experience: 10+ years of experience in an EHS role, with 5+ years in a leadership position.

Licenses/Certifications: Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), and Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in the Railroad industry
  • FRA, EPA
  • Proven record of successful EHS program development and implementation
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities

Loram determines compensation based on factors such as skills, competencies, education, and/or experience. Certain positions may be eligible for an annual bonus and paid time off in addition to base compensation.

Starting pay for the position is between $132,800. - $205,600
